The AIN-eNicaragua project is hosted by the Nicaraguan Internet Asscoiation (AIN).
AIN affiliates are private ISP and all 4 public Universities. Accumulated they manage 80% of Internet-traffic in Nicaragua.
The objectives for the niDG:
“The Nicaragua Development Gateway niDG-eNicaragua aims to increase effectiveness and impact of ICT as means for the Development of Nicaragua within the framework of the National Development Plan –Plan Nacional de Desarrollo PND-, a long-term strategy proposed by the Nicaraguan Government to solve basic structural problems of Nicaragua.”
The project-plan 2004/5 includes:
(1) Implementation of the niDG as knowledge–sharing platform, including the “initial load” with literally thousands of pieces of information that were gathered during the extended planning phase. This platform will be based on the DiGi-platform of DGF. It will include the local part of a regional Information-system on ICT4D, implemented together with Digital Dividends.
(2) Organization of inclusive, broad ICT “town meetings” iNicaragua-2004 and iNicaragua-2005. About fifteen autonomous, issues–centered track–groups will prepare their part of the events. The process of decentralized preparation and follow-up is at least as important as the event itself. All sectors of Nicaragua are involved.
