Disasters are diverse in nature, distribution, and socio-economic impact in Asia and the Pacific. Virtually any place impacted by a severe disaster becomes least-developed, needing outside (often international) help. This programme has worked toward improving regional cooperation in all aspects of space-enhanced disaster management – including risk assessment, preparation/mitigation, development and dissemination of early warnings, and response. Several projects and meetings have documented problems and possible solutions, and have moved toward developing strategies and action plans for implementing such regional cooperation. The effort continues.
