The DSF pilot projects in Africa aim at putting ICT, and in particular Internet access, at the service of communities living with HIV/AIDS. Projects are carried out in partnership with grassroots organisations specialised in health care, education and social inclusion for people living with HIV/AIDS. In addition to delivery of healthcare and treatment, beneficiary associations provide services to the public, namely by conducting prevention and education campaigns, promoting voluntary HIV testing, counselling, providing assistance to orphans and vulnerable children, enrolling pregnant women in existing national programmes for prevention of mother to child transmission.

Improved coordination between stakeholders committed to fighting HIV/AIDS; setting up of more effective epidemiological monitoring and evaluation systems; hosting and centralising of databases on prevention, medical care and treatment; improved capacities of medical and/or paramedical staff; tele-medicine applications allowing remote populations to benefit from the best quality medical resources; tele-education applications leading to skills development for vulnerable women and children; the development of income generating activities, namely pertaining to ICT services in order to facilitate mid and long term self-financing of community structures and medical care.
