UAE and ITU Partnership on ICTE |
| Activity description: | In line with WSIS mandate C3: “access to information and knowledge” and to showcase the proud history of ICT and provide a preview on the prospective ICT artifacts, the TRA and the UAE Government have partnered with ITU to build an ICT Visitors Center known as ICT-E at the ITU Headquarters in Geneva. The government of the UAE and the TRA has promised Two million USD for the design and construction of this Visitors Center. The new museum will open, free of charge, for the general public, ITU delegates and visiting experts, and will strive to inform visitors about the rich history and exciting developments in ICT and ITU’s role in helping to ‘Connect the world’. In addition to featuring interactive exhibits showcasing cutting-edge ICT systems and their role in transforming the way we live, the ICT Visitors Center will also host rotating exhibitions on key topics, including new inventions, emergency communications, ICT and climate change, and the future of the Internet. It will also feature interactive displays, such as touch screens and 3D displays, and will aim to immerse the visitor in an experience of the best of ICT and how it can improve our lives. ICT-E will comprise two parts. A permanent exhibition area will touch upon the history of ICT and show how today’s development of technologies is influencing our lives. It will also look into the trends of the future, as well as ITU’s ongoing activities and contribution to the global ICT environment. A second, temporary exhibition area will focus on special services and cutting-edge technologies. This area will benefit from sponsorship by companies which will be able to exhibit their products in demonstration booths of their own design. |
