Facilitating Citizen Journalism for Strengthening Democracy and Democratising Media in Nepal |
| Activity description: | The overall goal of the project is to facilitate the development of citizen journalism for strengthening democracy and democratising media in Nepal. The specific objectives are: 1) To build the awareness and capacity of marginalised communities such as rural communities, women, ethnic groups, dalits, youths, transgenders and children to practice citizen journalism by adopting new media technologies to participate in generating news, information, views on the political and social processes in Nepal; 2) To build the technical capacity (in terms of hardware, software, connectivity) of the marginalised communities to have ‘universal access’ to new media technologies and its applications in practicing citizen journalism; 3) To launch and establish a citizen journalism portal in Nepal in Nepali language, and possibly other local languages, as well as in English; 4) To link local voices and views of the Nepali people to global media and audience, in turn raising the marginalised issues at the global level; and 5) To facilitate practice of citizen journalism in Nepal to influence strengthening democracy and democratisation of media. |
