Activity: Global Connections and Exchange Program: Bangladesh

Activity description: The GCE Program was designed to promote integration of technology into Bangladeshi schools, including teacher capacity development in terms of both technical skills and teaching methodology. Additionally, as hybrid school/community telecenters, the internet learning centers (ILCs) created in the schools were designed to promote equity of access to technology in a region lacking technological resources and enabling infrastructure. ILCs are designed as a community resource, and are managed as a community asset, with the goal sustainable income-offset operation within a three year window. Value : Greater than 500,000 US dollars Expected outcome : The project has produced a replicable telecenter model which has enabled access and learning for 26 core schools, plus almost sixty partner schools. Between community and school users, a population of more than 100,000 people have access to computer and internet resources. School capacity has been enriched not only in terms of physical plant, but teaching repertoire and methodologies.
