Activity: Friends of Special Olympics Bharat

Activity description: Project description Intel India is managing a collaborative initiative with Special Olympics Bharat and The Indian Air Force Training Command Special School for training children from special schools around the city of Bangalore on technology skills. Intel’s contribution to this initiative comprises three steps: First, Intel set up a Technology Training lab with PCs, software and printers. Next, we developed a customized learning curriculum to meet the needs of the mentally challenged. This curriculum was extremely user-friendly, incorporating verbal and non-verbal modules. Over three months, children were taken through the entire spectrum of computer know-how and applications. Finally, Intel appointed experienced instructors to train two special educators. A similar activity has also been initiated at Asha Sadan (A rehabilitation center for special children in rural Karnataka) for more than 100 special children. The same learning format is being employed to convert these mentally challenged children to functional, earning citizens. Value : USD 10’000 to date Expected outcome : Over 40 mentally challenged children have been trained. Trainees from the first two batches secured full time jobs in leading telecom organizations on contractual terms. A further 9 graduates are expected to start on-the-job training at various organizations this quarter.
