Activity: Through Pension Reform to an Information Society (KSI ZUS) Comprehensive IT System Developed by Prokom Software SA for the Social Insurance Institution

Activity description: KSI ZUS, designed, built and implemented by Prokom Software SA, is a nationwide project that paved the way to the development of an information society by building on the infrastructure for the pension system reform in Poland. It supports execution of settlements in individual accounts of 20 million insureds and transfers of a defined portion of each social security contribution to a professional institution which invests them. ZUS was the first (and the only one to date) public institution in Poland that enabled payers to submit documents by secure e-mail. Originally, the vast majority of documents were filed in hard copy (only 5% of the employers used the e-filing mechanism). Now more than 75% payees file e-documents covering approx. 95% of all information submitted to ZUS. The electronic data transmission channel communicates with Open-End Pension Funds (OFEs), financial intermediaries and the National Healthcare Fund (NFZ). KSI ZUS was awarded top prize in eEurope Awards for eGovernment (2005).
