Expert Group Meeting on Open Source Software Solutions for the Public Sector in the Arab Region website of the activity |
| Activity description: | Jointly organized by ESCWA, ICTDAR and UNESCO, in Cairo during 19-20 December 2006, the meeting recommended the establishment of an online portal that will network amongst the existing communities and experts in the Arab region. The portal will include the meetings experts, in addition to the formal and informal FOSS communities in the region. Its objectives are to link the FOSS practitioners and communities together, and stimulate cooperation among them on the development of new applications. Possible outcomes could be in the field of education through the creation and/or Arabization of FOSS-based, neutral, and well-prepared modular curricula and courseware. |
