| Activity description: | HealthConnect will enable the improvement of safety and quality in health care through improved availability of consumer health information at the point of care. It will also enable the exchange of health information between healthcare providers via a secure network and within strict privacy guidelines. HealthConnect is a joint project of the Australian, State and Territory Governments. HealthConnect will address current issues in the health system such as: • the occurence of errors and adverse events and inappropriate treatments because of incomplete information at the point of care; • consumers being excluded from full participation in decisions about their health care; • providers and consumers having to spend time obtaining up to date health information; and • duplication of pathology and other investigative tests when previous results are not available incurring additional inconvenience, health risk and costs. |
