Existing services are delivered via dedicated infrastructure, resulting in network resource underutilization except during busy hours. Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) promises to end this and significantly reduce opex. This opens up the possibility of shared network resources, reduced capital investment and reduced operating expenses for network operators. Network operators expect a software purchase business model; OEMs need to protect their interests. For OEMs this may mean a ceding of exclusivity over some network functions and the possibility that more and more functions will come under the network operator domain. What business models will emerge? How will OEMs and network operators coexist in this new environment? This panel of experts will debate the possibilities, risks and opportunities from both the operator and OEM perspective.
