Sulyna is the Head of the International Affairs, Legal and Secretariat Division in the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commision (MCMC). She has had 17 years’ experience in the field of ICT ranging from policy development, international affairs, corporate communications, industry development, legal and secretarial work.
She has helmed the International Affairs portfolio since 2001 and took on the Legal Department in 2011 and had the Commission’s Secretariat added to her responsibilities in 2012. She is a lawyer by profession and practiced law for a while before pursuing a different career path in communications. She spent four years in Grey Worldwide as a Public Affairs and Public Relations consultant focusing in ICT and fast moving consumer goods. She joined MCMC in 2000 and has been there ever since.
As the Head of International Affairs for MCMC she has held various positions representing Malaysia on the international front. She is currently the Chair of the APEC Telecommunications and IT Working Group. She is also chairing a committee of the Asia Pacific Telecommunity’s (APT) Management Committee which is reviewing all the documentation and legal instruments of that intergovernmental organization as well as a Vice Chair of the APT Policy and Regulatory Forum. Closer to home, Sulyna is Advisor to the ASEAN ICT Centre (AICTC) and has been involved with the AICTC since its inception in April 2007 as Founding Director, a position she held until January 2011.
Sulyna holds an LL.B (Hons) degree from the University of London and is an Advocate and Solicitor of the Malaysian Bar to which she was called in 1992.
