Yoshiaki Nemoto received his B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees from Tohoku University in1968, 1970, and 1973, respectively. He was a professor and a director at Computer Center of Tohoku University. He was a professor with the Graduate School of Information Sciences until 2008. He served as the executive vice president of Tohoku University from 2008 to 2012. Now he is an Emeritus Professor of Tohoku University. From 2012 he is the director general of Resilient ICT Research Center of NICT, Sendai, Japan.
He has been engaged in research work on microwave networks, communication systems, computer network systems, image processing, and handwritten character recognition. He has published more than 270 peer-reviewed papers and has been awarded many prizes including the Prize for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan in 2006, and the 2006 Information Communications Promotion Month Award from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan. He served as the member of Information and Communication Council and an ITU-R Sectional Meeting Chair of the Council, Japan from 2007 to 2008.
