James Won-Ki Hong is Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Technology officer (CTO) of KT, overseeing KT Group R&D activities and leading KT Advanced Institute of Technology (AIT) since March 2012. Currently, he is Chairman of National Intelligence Communication Enterprise Association (NICA) and Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) Standardization Board, and also a member of IEEE Future Directions Committee (FDC) Industry Advisory Board (IAB). His Interests include network innovation, cloud computing, mobile services, IPTV, ICT convergence technologies and next generation technologies such as big data analytics and intelligence.
Before taking up the role in KT, he had worked at POSTECH for 17 years as a professor including Head of Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, Dean of graduate School for information technology, Director of POSTECH information Research labs (PIRL) and Head of the division of IT Convergence Engineering. He was a co-founder and CTO of Netstech, Palo alto, USA. He was also co-founder and Chief Software Architect of Yute System, Pohong Korea. Over the past 20 years James has been an active volunteer in various committees in IEEE, ComSoc, and KICS. He has served as steering Committee Chair of IEEE NOMS, IM and APNOMS as well as chair of CNOM (ComSoc Committee on Network Operations and Management) and KNOM.
James received his HBSC and MSC degrees in Computer Science from the University of Western Ontario, Canada in 1983 and 1985 respectively and a Ph.D degree in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, Canada in 1991
