Dr. Motoshima joined Mitsubishi Electric Corporation in 1982, where he has been engaged in research and development of long-haul WDM optical communication systems and optical subscriber systems including ATM-PON and Gb Ethernet PON systems. He has also been active in component development for these systems, such as optical amplifier repeaters, fully integrated optical transceivers, and mixed analog/digital integrated circuits. From 1991 to 1992, he was with Center for Telecommunications Research, Columbia University, New York as a visiting scholarship. He was awarded 52nd Shinohara Memorial Young Investigators Award for his “Development of Fully Integrated 622 Mbps Optical Transceiver” in 1989, and also awarded Achievement Award “Development of 1.25Gbit/s Burst-mode Optical Interface Technology for FTTH Systems“ in 2011, all from the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE) in Japan.
