Dr. Hiroshi Kumagai received the B. E., M. E., and D. E. degrees all in electrical engineering from Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan in 1975, 1978, and 1988, respectively. He has been working with the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT: Formerly, Communications Research Laboratory (CRL)), Japan since 1978. He is now the Director of Applied Electromagnetic Research Center of NICT. He was a visiting researcher at Goddard Space Flight Center, NASA from 1989 to 1991 to conduct the collaboration research on rain measurement from space between CRL and NASA. He is currently involved in the earth observation satellite mission of EarthCARE jointly conducted by ESA and Japan to contribute to understand cloud in the climate change. His research interest exists in the radiowave and optical remote sensing of cloud and aerosol.
