THE FORUM AT TELECOM 99 + INTERACTIVE 99

The Forum at TELECOM 99 + INTERACTIVE 99 promises to be the most important and exciting Forum ever held at a TELECOM event. The most influential leaders from the industry and key figures from government will meet to discuss the issues that will shape the next millennium.

The Forum will comprise four Summits and eight combined Sessions (covering issues of interest for all Summits).

  • The Policy and Regulatory Summit (Monday 11 to Friday 15 October) has been built around seven main themes: Global Convergence, Competition, Mobility, Electronic Commerce, Global Access to Scarce Resources, Infrastructure Investment and Trade. It will also include a Regulatory Roundtable.
  • The Infrastructure Summit (Networks and Systems) (Monday 11 to Friday 15 October) includes 18 Sessions, built around seven themes: the Information Infrastructure, New Technologies, Core & Access Networks, Management Issues, Investments and Mobile Communications.
  • The Interactive Summit (Services and Applications) (Tuesday 12 to Friday 15 October), the core of the Forum at TELECOM 99 + INTERACTIVE 99, will provide a novel, human centred approach to the information society. It addresses themes such as Electronic Commerce, Multimedia, Business over the Internet, Interactive Broadcasting, Learning Communities, and Mobile Interactivity.
  • The Telecom Development Summit (Monday 11 to Friday 15 October) is a new presentation within the Forum structure designed to provide opportunities for discussion of a broad range of development issues at all levels of participation. It will encompass the Development Symposium, which as in the past is presented on a stand alone basis. The upgrading of the overall development track to that of a Summit is in recognition of its importance and expanding interest.

    The Summit will open on Monday, 11 October 1999 with the TELECOM Development Symposium considering «New Opportunities in Developing Countries» covering specialized topics as the Centre of Excellence Concept: Settlement and Accounting Rate Reform: Community Access : Tele-Education and Telemedicine.

    From Tuesday, 12 October 1999 to Friday 15 October 1999, the Summit will continue with discussions on development issues such as : Universal Access: how to make it happen : Wireless Access : a viable option for developing countries, Internet in Developing Countries, Internet Governance: Technical and Policy perspective, Development Models; Regional Organization’s Roundtable: The future of Private Companies in the telecommunication markets of Developing Countries. On Friday, 15 October 1999, the Symposium Working Group Sessions will take place to develop and issue viable recommendations.

  • The TELECOM 99 + INTERACTIVE 99 Forum Combined Sessions will address a variety of themes such as Telecommunications for People with Disabilities, Emergency Communications, Knowledge Networks, Investing in Info-communication Companies, and Human Resources. Two roundtables will be also organized as combined sessions: the Connected Society Roundtable and the Information Age Company Roundtable.
