The ITU Council instructed the Council Working Group on the WSIS to prepare proposals on how ITU should further adapt itself to the Information Society and the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) environment (Council Resolution 1244).

Two discussion forums on this topic are now available to collect inputs and opinions, the First Forum is for ITU Member States, Sector Members and Associates and the Second Forum is open.


  • 'Membership Forum' (for members and associates only)

    ITU Member States, Sector Members and Associates are invited to submit their inputs on this issue to the Council Working Group on WSIS for consideration.

  • 'Open Forum'

    Scholars, academicians, universities, forums, private sector, NGOs, and telecom and ICT professionals are invited to participate in brainstorming for ideas on how ITU could further meet the requirements of the Information Society.



Recently, 'Leading Scholars Name ITU Among World’s Most Enduring Institutions' notable for its effective information flow and as a facilitator of information and communication infrastructure.

ITU launched the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) process because it anticipated the emergence of the Information Society in which telecommunications play a central role and it understands that, today, the move towards the globalization of the Information Society requires the harmonious evolution in policies, regulations, networks and services.
