World Information Society Report 2007: Beyond WSIS

The second edition of the World Information Society Report, published by ITU and UNCTAD, looks beyond WSIS to the creation of an inclusive, people-centred and development-oriented Information Society, open to all. The opening chapter looks at the challenges of measuring the ICT sector while chapter two examines progress in bridging the digital divide. Chapter three focuses on emerging trends in the information society worldwide and chapter four looks at national ICT strategies. Chapter five considers the threats to cybersecurity, while chapter six provides an update on WSIS implementation and presents a number of ICT success stories across the world . When purchased, the report is accompanied by a series of tables providing the latest statistics on the development of ICTs worldwide.

World Summit on the Information Society – Golden Book for the Tunis Phase

ITU WSIS Thematic Meeting: Building Digital Bridges

This report looks at efforts by stakeholders at the local, national and international level to bridge the digital divide. It reviews the role of new technologies, multi-stakeholder partnerships and ICT indices in reducing the gap, taking an in-depth look at the cases of Australia, Hong Kong, India, Korea (Rep. of) and Malaysia. The report also proposes a methodology for the development of a composite Digital Opportunity Index (DOI).

ITU WSIS Thematic Meeting: Countering Spam

This publication presents the materials and conclusions of a thematic meeting on “Countering Spam” held by ITU from 7 to 9 July 2004, and forms part of the ITU New Initiatives Programme series. Among other things, the contributions delivered by the participants looked at the problem of finding a common approach to spam, and analyse issues ranging from technical solutions, different legislative approaches and international cooperation among different stakeholders. Also looked at is the problem of consumer awareness and education.
