About ITU Elections

The Plenipotentiary Conference elects the Secretary-General, the Deputy Secretary-General, the Directors of the Bureaux of the Radiocommunication Sector (BR), the Telecommunication Standardization Sector (TSB) and the Telecommunication Development Sector (BDT) and the members of the Radio Regulations Board (RRB). The Plenipotentiary Conference also elects the Member States that constitute the ITU Council.

First and final round of the elections: Thursday, 7 October, 9.30 hours (Guadalajara time)

Dr Hamadoun I. Touré of Mali was re-elected Secretary-General of ITU with 151 votes.
157 countries were present and voting. No candidate was running against him.

Mr Houlin Zhao of China was re-elected Deputy Secretary-General of ITU with 155 votes.
157 countries were present and voting. No candidate was running against him.
