Country Case Studies

The liberalization of trade in telecommunications and the reform of the international accounting rate and settlement system are likely to have a markedly greater impact on developing countries than on developed ones because developing countries gain a proportionately greater share of revenue from international traffic.

ITU has commissioned a series of case studies in coordination with other multilateral organizations, in order to study the likely impact of the changing international telecommunication environment.

The case studies of Bahamas, Colombia, India, Lesotho, Mauritania, Samoa, Senegal, Sri Lanka and Uganda will be presented at an information session during WTPF-98. ITU Telecommunication Development Sector (BDT) is funding the case studies of Bahamas, Colombia, India, Lesotho, Mauritania, Samoa and Senegal, while case studies of Sri Lanka and Uganda are funded by the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation and the World Bank.
