under the Shaping Tomorrow's Network Initiative

21-22 June 2007, EBU Headquarters* - Geneva, Switzerland

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) are jointly organizing a meeting of high-level experts to identify key trends and to address the new technological and policy challenges in the digital content delivery environment.

This meeting is being held under the "Shaping Tomorrow's Networks Initiative" and in line with the stated objectives of the WSIS Geneva Declaration of Principles (Dec 2003), which affirms “…the common desire and commitment to build a people-centred, inclusive and development-oriented Information Society, where everyone can create, access, utilize and share information and knowledge, enabling individuals, communities and peoples to achieve their full potential in promoting their sustainable development and improving their quality of life…”.

Vision and Objectives

As we move towards a multimedia future, in which voice, video- and data-streams can be exchanged seamlessly on all-digital networks, competition between delivery platforms will intensify. This meeting aims to:

  • Identify key future trends and to address the new technological and policy challenges in the digital content delivery environment.

  • Provide a forum for informal debate and the exchange of experiences and visions by all stakeholders.

  • Help foster new strategies, which will ultimately support the ITU and EBU in assisting their members to bridge the digital divide and to build a more inclusive Information Society.
