Geneva Tourism - Switzerland

GENEVA Information

On the cross roads of mankind’s ideas, Geneva has always been a place to visit for important persons, beginning with Julius Cesar who in 58 A.C. made Geneva into a border post.
" The smallest of big cities" has an especially riche artistic and cultural life. Concerts, performances of all kinds as well as expositions take place all over the year. Geneva is proud of its three music conservatories and of its opera where the world’s greatest lyrical artists perform regularly. In the about 30 museums you can see famous collections, testimonies of the creativity and the cultural influence of the city.
The visit of the Old Town with its historical streets and buildings is a very enriching experience.
As a traditional meeting place for more than 2'000 years, Geneva today has about 400'000 inhabitants. Its international role is assured by the one third of its population that comes from 157 different nations. In the 16th and 17th centuries, Geneva was a place of refuge for Protestants persecuted in their own countries. In 1863, it became the birthplace of the Red Cross. In 1919, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson decided to install the headquarters of the League of Nations in Geneva.

Geneva being a very international City, has more than 1’100 restaurants with a extremely vast and diversified choice of dishes from around the world.

Many typical restaurants propose authentic Geneva dishes with a great choice of traditional simple cooking, more typical from the town than from the country-side, such as pork fricassee, braised beef and of cause all the different fishes from the lake — e.g. perch, char, féra and trout.
