Session Description: For the
multi-stakeholder implementation process which is a foundation stone
of the Summit, the Annex to the Tunis Agenda attributes
responsibility for facilitating implementation in each of the eleven
WSIS Action Lines to UN bodies and specialised agencies. This
session reviews the background of Action Line C5: “Building
confidence and security in the use of ICTs” and takes a broad look
at how a number of countries have begun programmes to address
cybersecurity and critical information infrastructure protection (CIIP).

Session Description: For World Telecommunication Day 2006, which is now also World Information Society Day (May 17th), the ITU Council chose the theme Promoting Global Cybersecurity to highlight the serious challenges we face in ensuring the safety and security of networked information and communication systems. Besides ongoing work programmes, in order to work towards strengthening global cybersecurity, ITU is involved in a number of related recent initiatives.
