IMT-2000 Project

Overview
Objectives:
-
Maintain a global perspective in all related Sector
activities, in full agreement with the interests of the ITU
membership;
-
Coordinate actions by the ITU Secretariat;
-
Strengthen the ITU's role as the most suitable and best positioned
organization to act as facilitator and coordinator of global
standards development, frequency spectrum harmonization,
and global circulation of
IMT-2000 terminals;
-
Raise awareness of the importance and reach of IMT-2000 as a
global harmonized mobile personal communication system and
access platform, with emphasis on its role in the deployment
of the global wireless information society; and
-
Negotiate collaborative arrangements between ITU and external
organizations.

Management:
-
Act
as a focal point for activities related to IMT-2000,
coordinating these activities inside ITU;
-
Assist ITU Member States by preparing
strategic and policy options, proposals and plans related
to IMT-2000;
-
Participate
in discussions and negotiations with external
organizations involved in wireless standards development,
in particular in the area of IMT-2000 standards and
spectrum issues;

Support
the activities of the Study Groups dealing with IMT-2000
in the three Sectors; and.

Chair the IMT-2000 Task Force
