Deborah Hurley, recipient of the 2002 Namur Award, served as Director of Harvard University's Information Infrastructure Project, and an official of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. At the OECD, she was responsible for writing the seminal report on information security, drafting, negotiation and adoption of the 1992 OECD Guidelines for the Security of Information Systems, and initiating activities on cryptography policy. She chaired the ITU Workshops on Creating Trust in Critical Network Infrastructures and on Regulatory Implications of Broadband, and the Computers, Freedom and Privacy Conference. Hurley serves on several boards and  committees, including for the U.S. State Department, Electronic Privacy Information Center, and American Association for the Advancement of Science. She is the author of several works on information policy, including, most recently Pole Star: Human Rights in the Information Society (September 2003).

Récipiendaire du prix Namur en 2002, Deborah Hurley a dirigé le Harvard Information Infrastructure project de l'Université Harvard et a été représentante officielle de l'Organisation de coopération et de développement économiques (OCDE). dans le cadre de ses fonctions à l'OCDE, elle a été responsable de la rédaction d'un rapport sur la sécurité de l'information ainsi que de l'élaboration, de la discussion et de ladoption des principes directeurs de l'OCDE sur la sécurité des systèmes d'information. c'est aussi à elle qu'on doit les premières activités de l'organisation sur les politiques en matière de cryptographie. elle a assuré la présidence des ateliers de l'Union internationale des télécommunications (UIT) sur l'instauration d'un sentiment de confiance face aux infrastructures névralgiques des réseaux et sur les implications de l'accès à large bande sur la réglementation. Elle a aussi présidé la conférence sur l'Informatique, les libertés et la vie privée. Madame Hurley a été membre de plusieurs conseils d'administration et de comités, notamment pour le département d'Etat américain, l'Electronic Privacy Information Center et l'Association Américaine pour l'Avancement de la Science. Elle est l'auteur de plusieurs travaux sur la information policy et notamment plus récemment: Pole Star: Human Rights in the Information Society (September 2003).
