The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) was established by virtue of the provisions set forth in the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand B.E.2540 and the Act on the Organization to assign radio frequency and to regulate Broadcasting and Telecommunications Service B.E.2543 (A.D.2000) by the royal proclamation of which His Majesty the King graciously appointed the election of the commissioners on 1 October 2004. The NTC is the first independent state telecommunication regulator. Its duties and responsibilities are to regulate all telecommunication services in the country pursuant to the provisions of the Act and the Telecommunications Business Act B.E. 2544 (A.D.2001) through formulating a Master Plan regarding telecommunications activities, setting criteria and categories of Telecommunication services, permitting and regulating the use of spectrum for telecommunication services, and granting licenses to the telecommunications operators.
