ITU TELECOM MIDDLE EAST & ARAB STATES 2001 postponed
Geneva / Cairo, 6 February 2001 — In September 2000, Mr Yoshio Utsumi, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union and H.E. Mrs. Fayza Aboulnaga, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Egypt to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, signed an agreement to hold an international telecommunication
exhibition and forum, ITU TELECOM MIDDLE EAST & ARAB STATES 2001, in Cairo, from 7 to 10 May 2001 at the Cairo International Conference Centre.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the International Telecommunication Union have now agreed to postpone the Middle
East & Arab States event. The Government of Egypt and the ITU remain fully committed to the organization of the Middle East & Arab States event, however, and to exert all possible efforts to ensure its success. Once new dates for ITU
TELECOM MIDDLE EAST & ARAB STATES have been identified, they will both be posted on the ITU TELECOM website and announced in a press release.
The International Telecommunication Union organizes world and regional TELECOM events to promote the benefits of telecommunications and to demonstrate recent technological advances, as a service to the ITU’s Membership and to
foster the transfer of this new technology and information to less developed countries.

Forthcoming ITU TELECOM
events:
The next ITU
TELECOM
event will be the fifth regional TELECOM
event for the Africa region. ITU
TELECOM AFRICA
2001 which will be hosted by the Government of the Republic of South Africa. It will
be staged from 12 to 16 November 2001, and will be followed next year by Americas
and Asia events.
Completing the
current four year cycle will be ITU
TELECOM WORLD
2003, which will take place at Palexpo in Geneva from 12 to 18 October 2003.
