ITU Conference signals enhanced international cooperation in ICT - Plenipotentiary Conference endorses expanded mandate for ITU

The 17th ITU Plenipotentiary Conference wound up Friday evening by setting out a road map for the Union to chart its future course as the pre-eminent world body for telecommunications and state-of-the-art information and communication technologies (ICT). ITU Secretary-General, Deputy Secretary-General elected today by Plenipotentiary Conference - Landslide majority obtained

Member States of the International Telecommunication Union elected Mr Hamadoun I. Touré of Mali as Secretary-General of ITU for a four-year term. The election took place in Antalya, Turkey during the 17th ITU Plenipotentiary Conference. Mr Touré won the position with 95 votes with 155 countries present and voting, and thus the required majority for election was 78 votes... [read more]

Turkish Prime Minister opens ITU Plenipotentiary Conference - Antalya meeting to provide future direction and new leadership to Union
