WTSA-2004
World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly
Florianópolis, Brazil
14
October 2004

Closing Address
by

Mr Roberto Blois
Deputy Secretary-General

This WTSA has seen much intense deliberation. But this is the nature of the complicated task that we have before us. We have always to expect that that there will be some difference of opinion. The fact that we have resolved these issues is testament to the value and power of ITU as an able architect of the standards that underpin the world’s communications networks.

The confident chairmanship of this WTSA has ensured that we have made significant strides towards the further development of the information society.

My thanks go to you all for your hard work in the various committees and ad hoc groups.

Our Brazilian hosts did their utmost to help us all make the most of our time in Florianopolis, I am extremely grateful to them for their help. My thanks, too, goes to all of the ITU staff, who once again proved that they are our greatest asset.

Thanks to your able guidance, Mr Chairman, and your confident leadership, patience and humor we have been able to steer a clear course through some turbulent waters.

For this I commend you, and would like to give you the ITU medal, a token of esteem and our great appreciation of your work.
