On September 7th and 19th of 2017 Mexico was hit by two devastating earthquakes, ranking at 8.2 and 7.1 on Ritcher's magnitude scale, respectively. This tragedy took the lives of over 400 people and left thousands with loss to their properties and livelihoods. Proactively, people hit the streets to help each other and the term "Fuerza México" (Force/Strenght Mexico) was coined to refer to emergency and relief efforts being undertaken by all sectors of society, as well as to the resilience and solidarity of the Mexican people in times of tragedy. As was in order, considerable monetary and in-kind resources were mobilized to relief efforts, coming from the government, international aid, as well as from social and private sectors. Immediately, an urge for transparency in how much aid was coming and how it was being distributed was born. That is why Transparencia Presupuestaria created the website Fuerza México, to bring transparency and accountability to federal government's and official international aid through key information technological tools such as georreferenciation and automatic visualization, as well as open data from over 10 federal agencies. All the above, with the firm believe that disaster risk management is a cross-cutting issue for sustainable development, as the factors that increase risks for the healthy lives and well-being for all (SDG 3) are not only natural, but human-intervened. Only when the government is a key source of prompt, reliable information using ICT, can we attempt to build resilient infrastructure and cities.
