Information about the project
Shiojiri City project
Shiojiri City constructed its own communication infrastructure using optic fiber and ad-hoc wireless networks in addition to fixed and mobile networks provided by incumbent operators such as NTT, NTT DoCoMo, KDDI and Softbank. The Platform on these networks can provide ICT services in the city such as healthcare, social welfare, disaster mitigation, children and elderly people tracking using wireless tags, weather observation, etc. The data collected through the municipal info-communication networks are saved at the center for analysis and displayed by location, time, and event. Shiojiri Incubation Plaza (SIP), accommodated in an independent building, is the center of IT ventures and entrepreneurs in the city. Shiojiri continues to challenge towards the smart city by promoting capacity building for data analysts and data scientists to fully utilize the big data collected through the networks.
Local implementation: Japan, Shiojiri
