Information about the project
Income Generation Project for Farmers using ICT
IGPF
The project aims to generate income for rural female farmers in Bangladesh. The model farmers produce quality vegetables (QVegie) by using no chemical fertilizers/pesticides and sell them to urban customers. ICT was used for three purposes: (1) To digitize and disseminate advanced farming knowledge to the farmers (2) To upload product information to the e-commerce site (3) To smoothly establish communication between farmer-farmer, farmer-expert, and farmer-consumer. In 6 farming seasons (three years), we worked in two pilot sites, engaged 35-50 farmers, focused on 5 major vegetables and estimated that QVegie can bring 2-3 times more income to the farmers. We aim to franchise the model to other communities.
