Information about the project
UNCTAD publishes Information Economy Report 2010: ICTs, Enterprises and Poverty Alleviation, October 2010
The Report highlights that, for the first time, there are realistic opportunities for inhabitants of remote locations in low-income countries to get connected via ICTs. Farmers, fishermen and micro-entrepreneurs use mobile phones for their commercial activities; some poor people found new livelihoods on the back of this trend. Policymakers should seize these new opportunities to leverage ICTs and enterprise to bring tangible benefits to the poor.
