Description *
As early as December 30, 2004, Huawei rushed emergency telecom equipment to tsunami-hit zones in Indonesia, India, Thailand, and Sri Lanka to help build emergency communications systems and reconstruct communications networks. The company set up a team for local relief operations led by top executives, and sent over 30 Chinese and foreign engineering service professionals to aid in the set up of telecommunication networks. Throughout the entire process, Huawei worked in close contact with local governments, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the Chinese government to ensure it always delivered the most useful and transparent aid possible. Value : USD 2.42 million of donated telecom equipment and an additional USD 2.42 million in cash donations from the company and its employees Expected outcome : Help in the rebuilding of telecoms infrastructure in tsunami-striken regions. The company donated GSM and CDMA network equipment as well as CDMA fixed terminals, all of which was used to rebuild communication networks and save lives.
