Environment and Major Hazards
The Council of Europe, which has maintained an environment sector since 1962, supports and has always applied the principles embodied in the "Convention on access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access of the Public to Environmental Matters (Aarhus 1998)" as a pillar to enable democratic involvement by the civil society in public matters. Our Organisation has substantially contributed to awareness-raising in the environment and sustainable development fields through specific Recommendations of the Committee of Ministers, promotion of environmental education, information campaigns on biological diversity, publications and websites.
