E-Government for Development Initiative
The "e-Government for Development" Initiative, carried out by the Government of Italy, implements concrete e-Government projects in Developing Countries and countries with economies in transition with the aim of: i. improving the efficiency and transparency of public administrations, thus promoting social and economic development and strengthen-ing good governance, ii. reducing public administration running costs, iii. promoting an economic environment capable of attracting public and private foreign investments, iv. bridging the Digital Divide by contributing to the uptake of ICT by citizens and businesses. In its first year of activity, the Technical Unit started putting the Initiative into practice and mobilising financial resources and expertise needed for projects in South East Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. The Technical Unit co-ordinates the implementation of the programme together with repre-sentatives of the Governments of the beneficiary states, international organisations and various Italian government offices
