ITU Internet Training Center Initiative (ITCI) Phase 1
In May 2001, Cisco Systems, Inc., and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) announced the formation of a strategic partnership, the ITU Internet Training Center Initiative to establish Cisco Networking Academies in colleges and universities in developing countries to provide opportunities for careers in the Information Society. The Initiative has expanded to more than 50 Training Centers around the world. The web-based courses are available in nine languages. Course material on network security, and wireless have been added. Furthermore, sponsored-curricula from other private-sector partners provide course content on IT essentials, Java, data cabling and web-based design. Some of these centers are also part of the Gender-based Academy program.
