Information about the project
Development of an Arabic Domain Name System (ADNS)
In 2003, ESCWA helped form an “Arab Domain Names Task Force” which defined standards for Arabic domain names. In the ensuing years, ESCWA supported several related initiatives. In 2007, ESCWA continued its efforts by lobbying for the ADNS project in the second IGF meeting which took place in Brazil. ESCWA further expanded its efforts by initiating and leading the adoption of Arabic Script in the IDNs Working Group (ASIWG), and by co-organizing the first global workshop on this topic between experts from the Arabic, Urdu and Farsi language communities.
