Participation of Azerbaijan at WSIS events
Working Group on WSIS PrepCom 1 events 1. PrepCom 1 of the Tunis phase of WSIS held in Hammamet, Tunis (June 24-26, 2004) 2. Consultations on the Establishment of Working Group on Internet Governance held in Geneva (September 20-21, 2004) Based on this broad framework, it was agreed that the focus of the preparatory process to the Tunis phase should be two-pronged: it should provide solutions on how to implement and follow up the Geneva decisions (Declaration of Principles and Plan of Action) by stakeholders at national, regional and international levels with particular attention to the challenges facing the Least Developed Countries and it should complete the unfinished business in Geneva on Internet Governance and Financing. Azerbaijan made its contribution to WSIS funding. Consultations on the setting up of the Working Group on Internet Governance (WGIG) was held at the United Nations in Geneva on 20 and 21 September 2004. The establishment of the WGIG was requested last December by the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). Aim of the consultations was to develop a common understanding of structure and functioning of the Working Group. Discussions focused on the scope and working methods of the Working Group, as well as the profile, qualities and characteristics of its members.
