Spectrum challenges: preparing for WRC-19
Tuesday, September 11, 2018, 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM, Room 12 ABE
Exponential growth in data traffic, from consumer videos to IoT applications, mobile broadband and new technologies such as virtual reality and 5G services, is putting limited spectrum resources under extreme pressure. As competing incumbent stakeholders jostle claims for spectrum with these new market entrants, new approaches to spectrum management, administration and coordination are being called for. How can the complex equation of socio-economic needs in different economies and regions best be met? Can spectrum sharing initiatives such as CBRS or dynamic spectrum allocation provide a meaningful solution? How should the issue of licensed versus unlicensed spectrum use be addressed? How can we prepare for the multiple use cases and demands of 5G-enabled network slicing? What are the main issues under discussion across different regions in preparation for the ITU World Radiocommunication Conference in 2019?
