Internet for All: Financing Models for ICT Connectivity Infrastructure - Organized by the World Economic Forum
Monday, September 25, 2017, 9:15 AM - 11:00 AM, Room 106
In this session organized by the World Economic Forum, leaders from government, business, and civil society will examine the challenges and opportunities facing ICT infrastructure investment, and explore how to operationalize the financing of infrastructure projects.
The lack of viable financing options for infrastructure remains a significant obstacle to achieving universal connectivity. Core networks have attracted a great deal of investment, but lack reach and capacity in regions characterized by low per-capita incomes and/or low population density. Last-mile connections in underserved areas often fail to demonstrate profit potential and struggle to attract investment – despite evolving technologies and decreasing costs. And many infrastructure projects of all types face struggle to achieve financing due to appropriate investment mechanisms, unmitigated systemic risks, and inadequate project preparation.
