Smart digital transformation relies on a diverse, interconnected ecosystem of highly-complex, critical ICT implementations. The increasing complexity of ICT, combined with hyper-connectivity and the huge volumes of data generated, opens up a high degree of vulnerability – to malicious attacks, unintentional accidents or damage from natural disaster. Ensuring reliability, continuity of services and user safety in a smart environment is essential. The challenge of providing cyber security, data protection and privacy to reduce risk and increase resilience is key to the success of smart societies. How can we build resilience into smart technologies, systems and cities? What are the major threats of the interconnected world, and how can we anticipate and mitigate them? Is our ever-increasing reliance on ICT reducing our resilience to the extent that critical services are endangered? Could changes to jobs, markets and societies in the smart digital economy have a negative or even dangerous impact? This session will examine the potential risks in our smart future – and how best to counter them.
