Paul Wilson is TM Forum’s Smart City Trusted Advisor, working with City Leaders and the ICT industry worldwide. Between 2014-2016 Paul established and managed Bristol Is Open, a city-scale digital research infrastructure for the study of software definednetworks, 5G, internet of things and big data technologies that contribute to smart city solutions. Prior to this, Paul was Chief Executive of the West of England LEP, with responsibility for the economic strategy of the Bristol & Bath City Region of 1.1m people and annual GVA of £26bn. He led the development of the region’s Strategic Economic Plan which resulted in an injection of £230m of Central Government funding into the local economy. This created 1,500 new jobs in two years, and opened up a variety of innovative growth projects in the region, including Bristol Is Open. Prior to this Paul worked at SunGard Financial Systemsand rose through the ranks to become Chief Marketing Officer. During this fifteen year period the business grew from $2.8bn to $5bnand became a Fortune 500 company. With 150+ acquisitions, Paul led the development of a global go-to-market strategy working closely with the sales leadership. Paul constructed international sales, marketing and product management campaigns that brought about organisational cohesion and delivered over $100m of new business in three years, winning B2B Marketing’s coveted Best International Campaign twice. Previously Paul worked as a BBC News journalist and in community projects in the UK and Asia. Paul has an MBA from Cass Business School and Political Science degree from the University of Birmingham, UK. He is married with two children; his family live in Bristol and have previously lived in London, Geneva and New York.
