Title Supporting implementation of the ITU Asia-Pacific Regional Initiatives
Description In the Asia-Pacific (ASP) Region, the ITU is implementing various activities under the Hyderabad Action Plan (HAP) adopted at the World Telecommunication Development Conference in 2010. During 2015-2018, the ITU will implement the Dubai Action Plan (DuAP) adopted at the World Telecommunication Development Conference in 2014. Activities include regional events and specific direct-country actions relating to implementation of ITU Asia-Pacific Regional Initiatives (2015-2018) and that will contribute to the achievement of the objectives and expected outcomes of the Dubai Action Plan. This project document aims to support and facilitate those planned activities which meet the criteria set out in this document as well as assist towards implementation of ASP Regional Initiatives identified in the Dubai Action Plan DuAP: Special consideration for Least Developed Countries, including Pacific Island Countries, and Landlocked Developing Countries; Emergency Telecommunications; Harnessing the Benefits of new Technologies; Development of Broadband Access and Adoption of Broadband; Policy and Regulation. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and this project document, both signed by COMMS and the ITU, governs the funding arrangements and activities to be implemented utilizing the cash contribution of this project.

Achievements
  • More than 15 countries benefited from the project’s activities (events and country specific actions) and more than 200 people trained
  • ITU International ICT Volunteers was launched at the Connect Asia-Pacific Summit 2013, and was implemented under this project in collaboration with other partners.
  • Most events and actions were implemented in collaboration with regional and national organizations such as Pacific Disability Forum (PDF), Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), University of the South Pacific (USP), Pacific Islands Telecommunication Association (PITA), Asian Development Bank (ADB)
  • 13 regional events organized, 11 country-specific actions implemented (10 beneficiary countries)
