The Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (Cedare), established in 1992, is an international inter-governmental organization, with diplomatic status. The Centre's mission is to provide leadership and advocate sound governance for environmental protection. The Centre' specific priorities for action include: water resources management, land resources, knowledge management and information technology applications, and the interrelated issues of markets, business and the environment. Cedare’s global partner base includes governments, universities, international organizations, NGO’s, media, private sector, and civil society. Cedare contributes to the establishment of a number of regional environment and information networks.
Minister Ebeid was Egypt’s first Minister of the Environment and the first woman minister to hold this position in the Arab world. She is currently Executive Director of CEDARE and serves as chair and board member of many other organizations.
Minister Ebeid was Special Peace Envoy of the Secretary-General of the Arab League and has a long-standing professional record with the UN in the field of international development cooperation.
