U-COM Burundi formerly Telecel-Burundi, operates with the brand name Leo. It is owned by Orascom Telecom of Egypt through its Telecel Globe holding company. Leo Burundi has about 60% of the Burundi market. The project consists of the upgrade and expansion of U-Com Burundi S.A.’s (“Leo Burundi”, “Leo”, or the Company”) mobile telephone network in Burundi. The company currently provides outdoor coverage for only 60% of the total population in all 17 provinces in Burundi including all of Bujumbura’s population and high proportions of the main urban areas in the country.
Before joining Leo Burundi, Abdallah
Elkabdani was with Alcatel-Lucent as Vice President Customer care and project
management office for Middle-East and Africa.
Prior to Alcatel-Lucent, he held several leadership positions in Alcatel,
including Vice President Service Teams for France, Middle-East, Turkey, Africa
and India. Previously he was General Manager of Alcatel Egypt, Sales Director
for Wireless networks in Middle-East, General Manager of Mobile Network
Division within Alcatel Egypt including the international service center
for mobile networks and many leadership roles within Operations, Services,
Wireless program management, Technical support and training.
His twenty five plus years of diverse telecommunications background in active
cross-functional roles and multicultural management across several countries
give him a wide perspective and a large experience in the telecommunications
industry. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics and
telecommunications Engineering from Cairo University.
