DESIGNATION OF MEDIA RELATIONS OFFICERS FOR WSIS

To facilitate contact between participants and the WSIS Media Service on the one hand, and journalists on the other, government and observer delegations are requested to nominate one or more Media Relations Officers who will serve as a focal point for media relations.

An online form to designate Delegations' media relations officers can be found here.

Access is granted to Designated Focal Points by using their username and password.

The list of accredited media will be made available exclusively to Media Relations Officers through authenticated access. Media services, such as reservation of pigeonholes and press events, will also be made available only to Media Relations Officers through online forms accessed via the same username and password. Moreover, accredited media will be given access to the list of Media Relations Officers through authenticated access, to facilitate contact with delegations.

Designating a Media Relations Officer will therefore ensure that delegations can gain full access to WSIS media relations services and will also ensure that accredited journalists know whom to contact for queries/requests relating to delegation's participation. It is therefore imperative that Media Relations Officers be designated.

In particular, Media Relations Officer will be responsible for:

  1. reserving pigeonholes for distribution of delegation's documents to the media

  2. obtaining Media Centre Overpasses (2 per delegation). Access to the Media Centre - whether it is to meet journalists, use the interview rooms, or deliver documents to your pigeonhole - will be strictly limited to persons carrying these overpasses

  3. booking press events that will be included in the official Event Calendar, which will be displayed on plasma screens throughout the venue, and on the web for public access

  4. obtaining access to the Accredited Media List

In the absence of a designated Media Relations Officer, it will be extremely difficult for the WSIS Media Service to foster contact with the media regarding Delegations' participation at the Summit.

One or more persons may be designated to fulfil this function prior to the Summit, with a new team nominated for onsite work in Tunis. It is also possible to progressively add names to the existing team as the Summit approaches and activities intensify by using the same online form here.
