Annual Forum follows up on World Summit on the Information Society
High-level exchanges aim at speeding up implementation of Summit outcomes

What:

World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum:
Co-hosted by ITU, UNESCO, UNCTAD and UNDP

When:

18−22 May 2009. Opening ceremony 18 May, 09:00 am.

Where:

ITU, Geneva, Switzerland

Why:

The WSIS Forum builds upon the tradition of annual follow-up meetings for the implementation of WSIS outcomes, scheduled in May (around World Telecommunication and Information Society Day to mark ITU’s founding in 1865).

Six high-level panels will address issues critical to the multi-stakeholder WSIS implementation and follow-up process:

Accessing Knowledge

Financial mechanisms in the economic downturn

Cybersecurity

bullet

Climate change and ICTs

bullet

ICT applications for a better life

The Forum provides opportunities to network and participate in multi-stakeholder discussions and consultations on WSIS implementation. These include meetings for facilitators, thematic workshops and speed exchanges on critical issues.
