The Future Networked Car drives to the Geneva Motor Show
Interactive meet to build on advances in motorsports and driverless cars
Geneva, 21 January 2014 – An
ITU international symposium, the ‘Future
Networked Car’,
will be held 5-6 March 2014 at the Geneva Motor Show. The free-of-charge,
open-to-all event will host experts from the automotive and ICT fields to
discuss the accelerating convergence within the two industry sectors set to
introduce safer, more energy-efficient vehicles and intelligent transport
systems (ITS). Registration is now
open.
The event will open on the second Press day of the Geneva Motor Show on 5 March
with a High-level dialogue on ‘Innovation for the Future Car’. Leading industry
figures will critique developments in the ICT, automotive and intelligent
transport fields with a view to channelling future innovation.
Jean Todt, President of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA),
will spearhead the event’s emphasis on motorsport as an incubator of innovation
and technical advances.
President of Infiniti Motor Johan de Nysschen will lead the industry debate
focused on innovation and future technologies. The newly launched Q50 car will
be the centrepiece.
Focused sessions will examine the driverless car, or ‘automated driving’, and
associated human factors and regulatory requirements; the potential of ITS to
reduce emissions and boost convenience by connecting vehicles with one another
and roadside infrastructure; security in the context of networked cars; and the
integration of nomadic devices in vehicles.
Safety will be a recurrent theme throughout the event, relevant to all topics on
the agenda, especially addressing the question of how vehicles will incorporate
connected technologies without exacerbating driver distraction. A special
safety-oriented session, co-sponsored by ITU and Anheuser-Busch InBev (ABI),
will discuss global road safety goals and the role of industry, government and
public-private partnership in driving this agenda.
A preliminary event programme is available
